Dr. Onkar qualified as a dentist from King’s College London in 2019 and then went on to complete his dental foundation training in Essex. He is currently training as a dental core trainee in Oral Surgery/Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Eastman institute. Onkar is passionate about education and keen to give back to the next generation of dentists; you can often find him teaching alongside Dental Training Consultants or as an honorary lecturer for King’s Dental Society. He uses his Instagram to document the life of a junior dentist, with a no-frills, raw approach showing both the highs and the lows of his experience in the workplace. Onkar also enjoys writing and has been published in the BDJ, Young Dentist Magazine, the BDA Blog and also won the best case presentation during his foundation training year.
In this episode Onkar and I talk about our experience with Dental Foundation Training; the NHS training scheme for dental graduates in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. We talk about the highs, the lows and Onkar shares how his training year was affected by the coronavirus pandemic. We also talk about what we have learnt from our experience and advice we would give to our younger self.
